Interdigitations or digitations (Terminologia histologica: Junctiones intercellulares digitiformes) are cell membrane foldings between cells often encountered in epithelia.
The membranes of adjacent cells mesh with finger-like protrusions and thus have a meander-like course.
Interdigitations result in a high stability against extension.
